About Us

The Cable Consortium of Liberia (CCL) is a public-private partnership that was created by several stakeholders in an effort to bring the first high speed fiber optic submarine cable to Liberia. These stakeholders include the Government of Liberia (GOL), LIBTELCO, LoneStar Communications, NOVAFONE and Cellcom. CCL is part of an overall submarine cable system called ACE (Africa Coast to Europe) Consortium.

The ACE (Africa Coast to Europe) submarine cable system will eventually stretch from Portugal to South Africa connecting many countries along the Atlantic Coast of African when all four (4) segments are completed. At the moment, Segments 1 thru 3 are complete, providing broadband interconnection to global telecommunications networks to more than 16 countries on the Atlantic Coast.

The countries on the ACE network that are currently connected include:

Pemar'ch (France), Lisbon (Portugal), Tenerife (Canary Islands), Nouakchott (Mauritania), Dakar (Senegal), Banjul (Gambia), Conakry (Guinea), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Monrovia (Liberia), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Accra (Ghana), Cotonou (Benin), Lagos (Nigeria), Kribi (Cameroon), Bata (Equatorial Guinea), Libreville (Gabon) and Santana (Sao Tome).

The ACE submarine cable system, which is 17,000 km long, became operational on December 18, 2012. It benefits from the state-of-the-art submarine cable technology and a minimum capacity of 1.92Tbit/s capable of supplying the network connectivity required to meet the needs of many countries and secure international traffic.

ACE complements existing submarine cables (SAT-3/WASC/SAFE, SEA-ME-WE.3, ATLANTIS 2, etc.) and offers the West African coastal region excellent connectivity to telecommunications networks in Europe, America and eventually Asia.
